View as user

Connect docs via MCP

View As lets an admin impersonate any non-admin user and instantly see Atlan exactly as that user does. Use it to confirm the effect of a change before rolling it out widely, or to troubleshoot an access issue a user has reported, without needing a separate test account.

View As is enabled by default for every workspace. If you'd prefer it disabled for your tenant, contact Atlan Support.

Prerequisites

  • You are an admin in Atlan.
  • The user you want to view as is a non-admin user. Admins can't be impersonated.

Impersonate users

  1. In your Atlan workspace, click Settings from the left menu.
  2. Click Personas.
  3. Open the persona the user belongs to, then find the user in its member list.
  4. Click View As next to the user's name.

Atlan opens a new window signed in as that user. Everything you see and click in this window reflects exactly what the user sees: their persona-scoped assets, Labs feature availability, purpose-based data access, and navigation. If the user has edit permissions, any changes you make in this window are saved and appear in audit logs as actions by the impersonated user.

What you can validate

  • Labs toggles: confirm a feature you turned on or off actually changes what the user sees.
  • Persona configuration: confirm asset types, sidebar tabs, discovery filters, and custom metadata visibility match what you configured for the persona.
  • Purpose-based access controls: confirm the user can (or can't) see the tagged data you expect.
  • Reported access issues: reproduce what a user is seeing to diagnose a "can't find this asset" or "missing this tab" report.
