Identity and access management controls how people get into your Atlan workspace and what they can do once they are in. How you set it up depends on your team's size and security needs. A small team can be run entirely by hand: an admin invites users, groups them, and assigns roles. A larger organization connects an identity provider so people sign in with their existing credentials and accounts are provisioned automatically.

Whichever path you take, the work happens in three areas, each a section in the sidebar: set up how people sign in, add users and give each a role, and organize them into groups.

Small team / quick start

Manage by hand

An admin adds people directly in Atlan, with no identity provider. Best when:

  • Your team is under ~10 people
  • Manual invites are manageable
  • You have no SSO requirement yet

Growing or enterprise team

Identity provider

Connect SSO so people sign in with existing credentials, and add SCIM to automate the user lifecycle. Best when:

  • Your team is 10+ people
  • IT manages access centrally
  • You have compliance or audit needs
