Customize catalog view

Connect docs via MCP

Persona preferences customize the catalog view for everyone in the persona, covering the default landing page, visible asset types, sidebar tabs, discovery filters, and custom metadata. Preferences only affect users while they are in this persona's context, so different teams can have different views of Atlan without any conflict.

Prerequisites

Before you configure preferences, make sure:

  • You are an admin in Atlan, or you have the Governance Admin sub-role.
  • The persona you want to configure exists. If not, create it first.
  • You know which preferences you want to adjust: landing page, asset types, sidebar tabs, asset filters, asset name, custom metadata, or products.

Open persona preferences

  1. In your Atlan workspace, click Settings from the left menu.

If you are using the Old UI (Classic), from the left menu, click Admin.

  2. Click Persona to open the personas list, then open the persona you want to configure.

  3. Switch to the Preferences tab. The left side of the tab lists every preference category you can configure.

  4. Select a category from the left menu and adjust the settings as described below. Changes save automatically.

Preference categories

Sets the default landing page when users in this persona sign in to Atlan. Available options are Home, Assets, Glossary, Insights, Products, or a Custom path.

To make sure users always land on the selected page (not the global All assets view), disable the All assets view in the Labs settings.

Asset types

Controls which asset type categories are visible to users in this persona. Uncheck an asset type to hide it entirely. Use this to reduce noise for teams that only work with a specific subset of the catalog.

Asset sidebar

Controls which sidebar tabs appear when a user opens an asset. Uncheck a tab to hide it for all users in this persona. The tabs available depend on the asset type.

Tabs available on every asset:

  • Lineage: shows the upstream and downstream lineage graph for the asset.
  • Relations: lists related assets, such as linked terms or resources.
  • Activity: shows the audit trail of changes and events on the asset.
  • Resources: lists attached links, files, and external references.
  • Requests: shows open and resolved change requests on the asset.
  • Properties: displays technical properties and system-level metadata.

Tabs on SQL assets (tables, views, columns):

  • Columns: lists the columns in a table or view with their data types and descriptions.
  • Usage: shows query frequency and user activity statistics.
  • Profile: displays data profiling results such as row counts and null rates.
  • Queries: lists queries that have referenced the asset.

Tabs on BI assets (dashboards, reports, charts):

  • Fields: lists the fields or measures defined in the BI asset.

Tabs on ETL assets (pipelines, processes):

  • Runs: shows execution history for the pipeline or process.
  • Tasks: lists the individual tasks within a pipeline run.

Data quality tabs (where the integration is enabled):

  • Incidents: surfaces active data quality incidents linked to the asset.
  • Monte Carlo: shows Monte Carlo monitors and anomaly alerts.
  • Soda: shows Soda check results for the asset.
  • dbt Test: shows dbt test results linked to the asset.

Tabs on glossary assets:

  • Assets: lists catalog assets linked to the glossary term or category.

Tabs on query assets:

  • Schedules: shows the scheduled runs configured for a saved query.

Asset filters

Controls which filter options appear in the discovery filters menu. Uncheck a filter to remove it from the filters panel for users in this persona.

Asset name

Enables the Prefer display name over technical name toggle. When enabled, Atlan shows the display name wherever one is set, instead of the technical name.

Custom metadata

Controls which custom metadata structures are visible to users in the persona. Uncheck a structure to hide it entirely.

Asset metadata

Controls whether custom metadata fields are visible when a user views an asset. When enabled, users in this persona see custom metadata attributes on asset profiles. When disabled, the custom metadata panel is hidden entirely.

Business Graph

Configures the business graph view for users in this persona. You can set which connections and asset types appear in the business graph, limiting it to the data that is relevant to the team.

Data Exploration

Controls access to the Data Exploration (Insights) experience for users in this persona. You can enable or restrict the ability to run queries and explore data from within Atlan.

Products

Sets a cover image for data products within the persona's domain. Click Add cover image and upload the image you want users in this persona to see on data product pages.

Need help?

If preferences are not applying the way you expect, double-check that the user is actually in this persona's context and not in another persona's context that overrides display settings. Contact Atlan Support if the issue persists.
