Copy policy to another team

Copying a policy lets you reuse an existing metadata, data, or glossary policy in another persona without rebuilding the same asset selectors, permissions, and deny settings. Copying creates a new policy in the target persona with the same connection, asset selectors, permissions, and deny settings. The original policy in the source persona stays untouched, and you can edit the copy independently.

Prerequisites​

Before you copy a policy, make sure:

  • You are an admin in Atlan, or you have the Governance Admin sub-role.
  • Both the source persona (containing the policy you want to copy) and the target persona already exist. See Create a persona if you need to create the target.
  • You understand that the copy is independent. Changes to either copy after the operation don't propagate to the other.
Asset scope rules are not copied

If the source policy uses Rules to define asset scope (filter-based rules rather than browse or search selection), those rules are not included in the copy. The copied policy will have an empty or default asset scope. Rebuild rule-based asset selectors manually in the target persona after copying.

Copy policy​

  1. In your Atlan workspace, click Settings from the left menu.

    If you are using the Old UI (Classic), from the left menu, click Admin.

  2. Click Persona to open the personas list, then open the source persona (the one that contains the policy you want to copy).

  3. Switch to the Policies tab. The tab lists every metadata, data, business graph, and domain policy attached to this persona.

  4. Find the policy you want to copy and click the copy icon on that policy row.

  5. In the dropdown, select the target persona you want to copy the policy into.

  6. Confirm the copy. The policy appears in the target persona's Policies tab with the same connection, asset selector, permissions, and deny settings as the source. From here, you can edit the copy independently. Changes won't affect the source persona's policy.

Need help?​

If a copied policy isn't behaving the way you expect, check whether a deny rule in either persona is overriding the grants. A deny in any persona overrides grants from every other persona for the same user. If the issue persists, contact Atlan Support.
