Troubleshooting browser extension
When using the Atlan browser extension, you may encounter issues with loading, blocked content, or missing metadata icons. This page covers the most common issues and how to fix them.
Extension not loading
Cause
A blank page or continuous loading spinner appears when you open the extension. This is typically caused by browser cookie settings blocking third-party cookies.
Solution
Update your browser's cookie settings:
- In Chrome, go to Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Set the option to Block third-party cookies in Incognito (not all third-party cookies).
- Reload the extension.
For more on Chrome cookie settings, see Clear, enable, and manage cookies.
Error message in Brave browser
Cause
Brave browser's Shields feature blocks content scripts by default, which prevents the extension from loading correctly.
Solution
Turn off Brave Shields for the page you're using:
- In your Brave browser, click the Shields icon in the address bar.
- Toggle Shields to Off for that site.
- Reload the page and try the extension again.
Atlan icon not appearing in data tool
Cause
If your data tool is hosted on a custom domain rather than the standard SaaS URL, the extension doesn't recognize it by default and won't show the Atlan icon.
Solution
Map the custom domain in your extension settings:
- Click the Atlan icon in your browser toolbar to open the extension.
- Click Configure custom domains.
- Select your data tool and enter the custom domain URL.
- Click Save.
For admin-level setup, see Deploy extension to your organization.
