Enable embedded metadata in Tableau

Atlan metadata layers Atlan context directly onto the source application, rather than in a sidebar. This embedded experience provides users with immediate access to data lineage, quality metrics, and governance information without leaving their Tableau workflow.

Prerequisites​

Before enabling embedded metadata in Tableau:

  • You must have the Atlan browser extension installed. If not, see the How to use the Atlan browser extension guide for instructions.
  • Tableau dashboards must be available through the browser

Permissions required​

To enable this feature, you need:

  • Admin role in Atlan
  • Access to the Labs settings

Enable embedded metadata in Tableau​

To enable the embedded Atlan experience in Tableau for your users:

  1. From the left menu in Atlan, click Admin.

  2. Under Workspace, click Labs.

  3. Under the Access Control heading of the Labs page, turn on View embedded metadata in Tableau

  4. Once enabled, users with the extension installed can view Atlan metadata in Tableau dashboards.
