Use Atlan browser extension
Once the extension is configured, you can access Atlan metadata directly inside your supported data tools, search Atlan from any webpage, and link web pages as resources to assets.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- The Atlan browser extension installed and configured. If not, see Install and set up browser extension.
- An active session in your Atlan workspace.
- Access to a supported data tool, such as Tableau, Snowflake, or dbt Cloud.
Access metadata in-flow
The extension automatically detects supported assets and shows an Atlan icon in the lower-right corner of the page.
-
In your browser, go to your data tool, for example, your Tableau instance, Snowflake Snowsight, or dbt Cloud account.
-
Open an asset, such as a table, dashboard, or report.
-
Click the Atlan icon in the lower-right corner of the page to open the Atlan sidebar.
-
Use the tabs in the sidebar to explore the asset's metadata, descriptions, owners, lineage, tags, and more.
-
Edit any metadata fields directly from the sidebar. The sidebar refreshes automatically as you move between assets. Your Atlan permissions control what you can view and edit.
Search Atlan from any webpage
You can search Atlan directly from any webpage without navigating to Atlan first.
-
On any webpage, select the text you want to search for.
-
Right-click and select Search in Atlan.
The extension opens a new tab on Atlan's discovery page with results for that text.
Link webpage to asset
You can attach any webpage as a resource to an Atlan asset using the extension.
-
Navigate to the webpage you want to link.
-
Click the Atlan icon in your browser toolbar.
-
In the resource clipper, under Link this page to an asset, select the asset to link.
-
Click Save. Once linked, click Open in Atlan to view the asset directly.
