Enable data quality on connection
Enable data quality on your Snowflake connection in Atlan to start monitoring data quality. This guide helps you configure the connection with the necessary credentials and permissions.
Prerequisites
Before you enable Data Quality for Snowflake, confirm that you have:
- Set up Snowflake for data quality completed (including access request)
- Requested and received access for data quality from the Atlan team
- The credentials for the
atlan_dq_usercreated during Snowflake setup - Identify the Snowflake connection where you want to enable data quality
Enable data quality
Once the Atlan team grants the access, follow these steps to enable data quality on your Snowflake connection.

Turn on the data quality configuration toggle to configure:

- Navigate to Admin in Atlan
- Find the Labs section
- Turn on the Snowflake toggle under Data Quality section

Select your connection and configure credentials:
- Labs Page
- Connection Settings
- Navigate to Admin > Labs > Data Quality
- Click Connections for Snowflake and select your connection from the list
- Click Configure for your selected connection
- Turn on Snowflake data quality toggle
- Enter the following credential details:
- Username: The
atlan_dq_usercreated in Snowflake setup - Password: The password for your Atlan DQ user
- Role:
atlan_dq_service_role - Warehouse: Your preferred warehouse for DQ operations
- Username: The
- Enter your DQ database name: Atlan uses this database to store DQ related metadata for this connection in your Snowflake environment.
- Click Run permissions check to verify:
- Credentials have necessary permissions in Snowflake
- Snowflake setup completed correctly
- Click Update to save the credentials
- Navigate to Governance > Connections
- Select your Snowflake connection
- Open Connection settings from the sidebar
- Enter the following credential details:
- Username: The
atlan_dq_usercreated in Snowflake setup - Password: The password for your Atlan DQ user
- Role:
atlan_dq_service_role - Warehouse: Your preferred warehouse for DQ operations
- Username: The
- Enter your DQ database name: Atlan uses this database to store DQ related metadata for this connection in your Snowflake environment.
- Click Run permissions check to verify:
- Credentials have necessary permissions in Snowflake
- Snowflake setup completed correctly
- Click Update to save the credentials
Next steps
After completing these steps:
- Atlan takes approximately 15 minutes to complete the setup in the background
- Once finished, you'll see data quality options available on your Snowflake assets
- You can start creating data quality rules on tables and views
