Set up personal Teams notifications

You can connect your Microsoft Teams account to Atlan to receive direct message notifications when your starred assets are updated. This lets you stay informed about changes to the data assets you care about without leaving Teams.

Prerequisites​

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to a Microsoft Teams workspace.
  • The Atlan Assistant app is installed and set up in a channel. If you don't see the Atlan Assistant in Teams, contact your Atlan admin.
  • An active Atlan account with access to the assets you want to follow.
  • At least one asset starred in Atlan.

Connect your personal account​

  1. In Microsoft Teams, search for Atlan Assistant.

  2. Start a direct message conversation with the bot.

  3. Type connect and send the message.

  4. Select your Atlan domain from the list of available workspaces.

  5. When redirected to Atlan, sign in with your credentials and click Authorize.

After authorization succeeds, you receive a confirmation message in Teams. You can now enable notifications for your starred assets.

Enable notifications for starred assets​

After you connect your account, configure notifications for your starred assets:

  1. Click the star icon in the header to open the list of your starred assets.

  2. Click Enable notifications at the bottom to open the notification settings.

  3. Select Microsoft Teams as your notification channel.

  4. Choose which types of updates you want to receive:

    • Name: when the asset name is updated
    • Description: when a description is added, updated, or removed
    • Announcement: when an announcement is added, updated, or removed
    • Certificate: when a certificate is added, updated, or removed
    • Owners: when an owner is assigned or removed
    • README: when a README is added, updated, or removed
    • Terms: when a term is linked or unlinked
    • Tags: when a tag is attached or removed
    • Classifications: when a classification is added, updated, or removed
    • Custom metadata: when custom metadata is added, updated, or removed

  5. Click Save.

You now receive direct messages from the Atlan Assistant in Teams when this asset is updated. The messages include what changed, who made the change, when it occurred, and a link to view the asset.

After you save your notification settings, you can star assets anytime. Any starred assets use the same notification channel and criteria you selected.

Disconnect your personal account​

To disconnect your personal account, go to your Atlan profile → Integrations → Microsoft Teams → Disconnect. This stops all direct message notifications and removes the connection between your Teams account and Atlan.
