Atlan's new UI
Atlan's new UI explained: easy access to both conversational and keyword search, cleaner navigation, and one home for assets under All Assets. Glossary is now Business Graph, Insights is now Data Exploration. Nothing is removed, permissions don't change, and you can switch back to the classic UI until December 31, 2026.
December 31, 2026: Atlan moves the classic UI to limited support. Only bug fixes are provided, and all new features are available exclusively in the new UI. March 31, 2027: The classic UI is discontinued and no longer available.
The new UI is a redesigned Atlan experience that makes data easier to find, understand, and govern. You can easily access both conversational and keyword search, related experiences are grouped together under All Assets, and several features have new names.
No functionality is removed and permissions are unchanged: your metadata, lineage, glossary terms, domains, policies, and access continue to work exactly as before. Use the mapping table to find where each feature is located in the new UI.

Admins can turn on the new UI as the default experience for their organization from Settings → Labs (Admin → Labs in the Old UI (Classic)). Once it's on, users can no longer switch back to the classic UI. See Set default workspace UI.
Your first visit: the guided tour
On first login after your organization turns on the new UI, a welcome modal introduces the redesigned interface. It offers a short guided tour and links to this page.
If you start the tour, or it's your first visit and you don't dismiss the modal, a four-step guided tour walks through the main areas of the new UI:
- Search or ask: the unified box for both keyword search and asking Atlan AI in plain language.
- Assets: where All Assets lives in the sidebar.
- Agents: where Context Agents Studio lives in the sidebar.
- Settings: the consolidated admin area.
A step is skipped automatically if its target is not present in your tenant. For example, the Agents or Settings step does not appear if those areas are not available to you based on your permissions.
Replay the tour later. From the Home page, in the What's new section, use Learn more about Atlan UI and choose Take app tour. The same option is also available from the profile menu under Help and support.
Switching to the classic UI. Unless your admin has turned on the new UI as the default for your organization, a Switch to Classic UI button remains in the home header. See the note above on turning on the new UI for your organization.
What's new
Three shifts drive the redesign: teams want trusted data with fewer clicks, more data work starts with a question in plain language, and Atlan is evolving from a traditional catalog into the context layer for AI, where people and AI agents work from the same trusted metadata. Here's how that shows up in the product:
- Conversational and keyword search. Both are available based on what you want to do: ask Atlan AI in plain language and follow up naturally, or run a keyword and filtered search.
- Cleaner navigation. A collapsible sidebar groups related workflows together and reduces clicks to common tasks. Context Agents Studio moves out of the Governance Center and becomes a primary part of the navigation. The sidebar continues to respect your existing permissions.
- All assets get a common layout. Asset profiles keep the familiar core, with a refined, widget-first layout. Each widget is carefully curated to group related metadata together.
- Familiar features, new names. Same content and functionality: Glossary is now Business Graph, and Insights is now Data Exploration.
- Admin configuration under Settings. Workflows, policies, playbooks, personas, roles, access, and connector setup live in one admin-only area. Nothing needs to be reconfigured, and end users don't see it.

What stays unchanged
The new UI changes how Atlan is organized, not what it does:
- Your metadata, assets, lineage, glossary terms, domains, data products, policies, and governance setup all remain available.
- User permissions stay the same. Users continue to see only what they're allowed to access. Conversational search follows Atlan's existing permission model, with no separate AI-specific visibility.
- Core asset workflows remain familiar.
- Exact and keyword search is still available, alongside conversational search.
- Reporting and Inbox are unchanged.
- You can switch back to the classic UI at any time during the transition. If your admin has turned on the new UI as your organization's default, you won't be able to switch back to the classic UI after December 31, 2026.
