Use conversational AI in your tools
Conversational AI is available wherever you work. You can ask questions, explore metadata, and get answers without leaving the tools you use every day.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Set up conversational AI for your tenant. See Set up conversational AI.
Inside Atlan
Open chat from the Atlan homepage or the chat tab in the left navigation panel. This is the primary entry point for conversational AI and gives you access to your entire catalog in one place.
Use this when you want to:
- Explore assets across multiple connectors or domains
- Run a quick lookup without navigating to a specific page
- Start a new conversation from scratch
Every conversation is saved and accessible from the chat history panel, so you can pick up where you left off at any time.
In Copilot
Copilot brings conversational AI directly into the asset page you're viewing. It anchors every answer to the context of that specific asset, so you don't need to specify which table, column, or dashboard you're asking about—Copilot already knows.
Use this when you want to:
- Ask questions about a specific table, column, or dashboard without switching context
- Understand lineage, usage, or documentation for the asset you're currently reviewing
- Compare the asset you're on with related ones in your catalog
Open Copilot from the panel on any asset page. Questions you ask in Copilot are scoped to that asset automatically.
In your data tools
With the Atlan browser extension, conversational AI is available directly inside Snowflake, Databricks, Power BI, and other tools. The Atlan icon appears in your browser when you're on a supported tool. Click it to open chat and ask questions without switching tabs or losing your place in your query.
Use this when you want to:
- Look up a table's description or ownership while writing a query in Snowflake or Databricks
- Check lineage or certification status before using a dataset in a report
- Get context on an asset without leaving your BI tool or SQL editor
In Slack
Once integrated, you can ask data questions in any Slack channel and get answers directly in the thread. This is useful for teams that do much of their data coordination in Slack—you can resolve a data question mid-conversation without asking someone to open a separate tool.
Use this when you want to:
- Answer a data question that comes up in a Slack discussion
- Share catalog context with teammates who may not have Atlan open
- Get quick lookups without interrupting your workflow
To set up conversational AI in Slack, see Integrate Slack.
In Microsoft Teams
Conversational AI is accessible from within Microsoft Teams conversations, so data context is always within reach during meetings, standups, or async discussions.
Use this when you want to:
- Answer data questions that come up during a Teams call or in a channel
- Share verified asset information with stakeholders who work primarily in Teams
- Keep data discussions grounded in actual catalog metadata
To set up conversational AI in Teams, see Integrate Microsoft Teams.
