Set up conversational AI Private Preview
Conversational AI in Atlan enables users to ask natural-language questions about their data and metadata directly from the chat experience. This guide explains how to set up conversational AI for your organization, configure its behavior, and make it available to users.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Access to conversational AI: Your tenant must be enrolled in the conversational AI private preview. If you don't have access, contact Atlan support.
- Admin access: You must be an Atlan admin who can access Admin settings and Labs.
Enable conversational AI in Labs

In Atlan, go to Admin settings from the left navigation panel.

Go to Labs and find the Atlan AI section. If you don't see Conversational AI in Labs, contact Atlan support.

Add custom instructions in the Atlan AI configuration to guide how conversational AI responds.
Example:
You are a data assistant for ABCD Corp. Prioritize verified tables and certified assets.
When users ask for definitions, use business glossary terms before technical fields. -
If you want conversational AI to use MCP actions, enable MCP actions in conversational AI and choose which users or groups can access them.

Once conversational AI is configured, open the Chat icon from the left navigation panel to start using it.
