Use Atlan AI for glossary management ➕ Available to customers in Enterprise and Business-Critical platform editions

Who can do this?

Before using Atlan AI for glossary management, your admin user must enable the Atlan AI Summary toggle in the Atlan AI section under Labs.

Atlan AI helps you manage and enhance your glossary by providing intelligent summaries, automated enrichment insights, and conversational search capabilities. Use Atlan AI to quickly understand glossary content, identify improvement opportunities, and explore metadata through natural language.

You can use Atlan AI for glossary management to:

  • View AI-generated summaries for terms
  • Get enrichment insights that highlight missing descriptions, READMEs, or draft content
  • Add descriptions and READMEs using AI assistance when gaps are detected
  • Ask natural language questions about your glossary (Private Preview feature)

View AI-generated summaries​

Atlan AI automatically generates intelligent summaries for your glossary assets, making it easier to understand key information without reading lengthy descriptions.

Every glossary, category, and term now includes an AI-generated overview that surfaces the most important information for faster metadata browsing.

To view AI-generated summaries:

  1. From the left menu on any screen, click Glossary.
  2. Navigate to any glossary, category, or term.
  3. In the asset overview, you'll see an AI-generated summary that highlights the most relevant information.
  4. The summary appears automatically when the 'Atlan AI Summary' toggle is enabled in Labs.

The AI summary provides a crisp overview that helps you quickly understand the asset's purpose and key details.

Get automated enrichment insights​

If you have edit permissions for a glossary, Atlan AI provides smart insights to help improve glossary completeness. These insights appear at an aggregate level and highlight areas that need attention.

Atlan AI analyzes your glossary and identifies:

  • Assets missing descriptions
  • Assets without READMEs
  • Assets still in draft status
  • Other completeness gaps that impact metadata quality

To view enrichment insights:

  1. From the left menu on any screen, click Glossary.
  2. Navigate to a glossary, category, or term where you have edit permissions.
  3. Look for enrichment insights in the AI summary section.
  4. Review the highlighted areas that need improvement.

When the Enrich Metadata Labs toggle is also enabled, you'll see contextual calls to action for detected gaps.

Add descriptions and READMEs with AI assistance​

When metadata gaps are detected and both the 'Atlan AI Summary' and 'Enrich Metadata' toggles are enabled, Atlan AI provides contextual assistance for adding missing content.

Available AI-assisted actions include:

  • Add Description with AI assistance: Generate relevant descriptions for glossary assets
  • Add README using Atlan AI: Create comprehensive READMEs with AI support

To use AI assistance for enrichment:

  1. From the left menu on any screen, click Glossary.
  2. Navigate to an asset that shows enrichment insights.
  3. When gaps are detected, you'll see contextual buttons such as:
    • Add Description with AI assistance
    • Add README using Atlan AI
  4. Click the relevant button to generate AI-suggested content.
  5. Review, edit, and apply the AI-generated content as needed.

Explore with conversational search Private Preview​

Private Preview Feature

Conversational search for glossaries is available to customers in the Conversational AI Private Preview. If you're not part of the Private Preview but want to join, contact your Customer Success Manager.

For customers in the Conversational AI Private Preview, glossary assets surface suggested questions that you can ask in natural language. This copilot-like conversational experience helps you explore your metadata more intuitively.

When available, you'll see:

  • Suggested questions related to your glossary content
  • Natural language query capabilities
  • Conversational responses that help you understand your metadata

To use conversational search within the Glossary:

  1. Navigate to any glossary, category, or term.
  2. Look for suggested questions in the AI interface.
  3. Click on a suggested question or type your own natural language query.
  4. Review the conversational response to better understand your glossary content.
