What does Atlan import from Immuta?

Connect docs via MCP

Atlan enriches data assets with Immuta access request links based on the connections, data products, and masking policies configured in your Immuta instance.

Enriched metadata

The Immuta workflow enriches assets based on the preferences configured during setup.

Data access requests

When Support requesting access to data products or Support requesting access to assets is enabled, the workflow associates Immuta access request links with the relevant data products and data assets.

For enriched assets, the asset profile displays a Request Data Access button. Clicking this button redirects the user to the appropriate Immuta access request page, pre-scoped to the selected asset.

Column masking exceptions

When Support requesting masking exceptions on masked columns is enabled, the workflow identifies columns where an Immuta masking policy is currently enforced and enriches those columns with masking exception request links.

For enriched columns, the column profile overview panel displays a Request Masking Exception button. This button only appears on columns that have an active Immuta masking policy—it's not shown on unmasked columns.

Coverage and onboarding behaviour

The workflow enriches access request links on all assets in Atlan catalogs that belong to source systems supported by Immuta—not just assets that have been explicitly onboarded in Immuta. This means the Request Data Access and Request Masking Exception buttons can appear on assets regardless of whether they're registered in your Immuta instance.

The experience for the user varies depending on the asset's onboarding status in Immuta:

  • Onboarded assets—the request button takes the user directly to the appropriate request form in Immuta, pre-scoped to the selected asset.
  • Non-onboarded assets—the request button takes the user to a generic Immuta page indicating that the asset hasn't yet been onboarded. This may translate into additional signals for Immuta admins around assets that might benefit from onboarding.

Notes

  • The workflow is point-in-time but can be scheduled to run periodically to capture new objects added to Atlan or changes to masking policies.
  • Atlan doesn't import row-level data or policy definitions from Immuta.
