Migrate archived enrichments App
You can use the Tableau Migration Manager workflow to automatically transfer enrichments from an archived Tableau asset to a new active one. This is useful when a Tableau asset is moved between projects (which causes Atlan to archive the old asset and create a new one) or when a Tableau asset is duplicated and you want the enrichment to carry over. The workflow is designed and tested for archived-to-active scenarios that result from project moves; using it for active-to-active migrations is possible but not covered by standard validation.
By adding the source asset’s URL to a custom metadata field on the target asset, the workflow identifies which asset to pull enrichments from and then migrates items like tags, terms, owners, descriptions, and custom metadata, including for related dashboards, worksheets, and datasource fields.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
-
Access to the Tableau Migration Manager app. If you don't have access, contact Atlan support or your Atlan customer team to request it.
-
A Tableau connection in Atlan where both the source and target assets exist.
-
Permissions to create and update custom metadata for Tableau assets.
Configure workflow
-
In your Atlan workspace, go to the homepage and click New workflow in the top navigation bar.
-
Search for Tableau Migration Manager, and then select Set up workflow.
-
In the Workflow name field, enter a descriptive name that clearly identifies the purpose of this workflow.
-
From the Tableau Connection dropdown, select the connection where both your source and target assets exist. The workflow can only migrate enrichments within the same Tableau connection, so make sure the assets belong to the connection you choose.
-
In Custom Metadata Name, enter the name of the custom metadata you created earlier to store the source asset URL. This is the custom metadata set (like a container) you created specifically for this migration workflow.
-
In Custom Metadata Property Name, enter the name of the URL-type property inside that custom metadata that holds the link to the original (source) Tableau asset. This is the specific field under your custom metadata where you pasted the source asset’s URL.
You only need to enter the source asset URL on the parent asset. The workflow automatically migrates enrichment for its related assets.
-
For
TableauWorkbook, this includes dashboards and worksheets. -
For
TableauDatasource, this includes datasource fields and calculated fields.
-
-
In Migration Mode, select Force Update if you want to overwrite everything on the target asset with the enrichments from the source, use this when you want the target to fully mirror the source, even if it already has tags, owners, or descriptions.
If you want to preserve existing enrichment on the target and only fill in fields that are missing, select Update If Empty, which migrates enrichment only when the target doesn’t already have a value for that attribute.
-
Schedule and run the workflow. You can run the workflow manually whenever you want to trigger the migration, or set up a schedule if you want it to run automatically at specific intervals.
