Enable Context Engineering Studio Private Preview
Enabling Context Engineering Studio (CES) is a one-time tenant setup with three steps: turn on the feature in Atlan Labs, optionally enable Data Exploration for query-history enrichment, and enable Context Engineering Studio access on a persona for your team. Once these steps are done, your team can start building context repositories.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure:
- Your tenant is enrolled in the Context Engineering Studio private preview. If you don't have access, contact Atlan support.
- You have Admin permissions in your Atlan workspace.
Turn on CES in Atlan Labs
Context Engineering Studio is gated behind an Atlan Labs toggle. Turn it on once per tenant.
-
In your Atlan workspace, click Settings from the left menu.
If you're using the Old UI (Classic), click the Admin icon in the left sidebar.
-
Click Labs.
-
Locate the Context Engineering Studio toggle and turn it on. Once enabled, Context Engineering Studio is available in your workspace.
Enable Data Exploration (recommended)
Context Engineering Studio uses query history and BI semantics from Atlan Data Exploration to generate richer semantic models and seed simulation question sets from real user activity. Data Exploration is recommended but not required.
Context Engineering Studio works without Data Exploration (Insights). Without it, Data Exploration question collections and query-history enrichment aren't available, so you add question-and-SQL pairs to your question set manually. Chat & build and Simulate still work.
If your organization's security posture permits it, turn on Data Exploration for the best experience:
-
In your Atlan workspace, click Settings from the left menu.
If you're using the Old UI (Classic), click the Admin icon in the left sidebar.
-
Click Data Exploration / Insights.
-
If Data Exploration isn't already enabled, click Enable and follow the prompts. If Data Exploration isn't available in your workspace, contact your Atlan representative.
Assign access to your team
Access to Context Engineering Studio is controlled through personas. As an admin, you enable the Context Engineering Studio flag on a persona, and members of that persona can then build and manage context repositories. No persona is created automatically when CES is enabled, so use an existing persona or create one for this purpose.
-
In your Atlan workspace, click Settings from the left menu.
If you're using the Old UI (Classic), click the Admin icon in the left sidebar.
-
Click Personas.
-
Select the persona you want to grant access to, or create a new persona.
-
Enable the Context Engineering Studio flag for the persona.
-
Add the users who can build and manage context repositories, typically data engineers, analytics engineers, and domain SMEs.
Next steps
You're ready to start building. No extra setup is required.
- What is Context Engineering Studio?: understand context repositories, skills, knowledge, and tools before you build.
- Build a context repository: describe your domain, let the agent generate a context repository, and simulate with a question set.
