Enrich metadata on asset collections

TL;DR

Step-by-step guide to triggering AI-powered metadata enrichment using context agents in Context Agents Studio.

Connect

Use Context Agents Studio to trigger AI-powered metadata enrichment across an asset collection. A context agent generates and applies a metadata attribute—descriptions, READMEs, or SQL intelligence—across all un-enriched assets in the collection in a single action.

Before you begin

  • You must have admin access to Context Agents Studio.
  • The collection you want to enrich must exist. See Collections to understand how default collections are built.

Trigger enrichment

Use the Overview tab in any collection to see which metadata attributes have gaps, then trigger enrichment for the ones you want to fill. You can run one agent at a time per attribute—each run processes only the assets still missing that attribute.

info

The agent only enriches assets that are missing the target attribute. Existing values are never overwritten.

  1. In your Atlan workspace, click Context Agents Studio from the left sidebar.

If you are using the Old UI (Classic), from the left sidebar, click GovernanceContext Agents Studio.

  2. Click the collection card you want to enrich to open the collection detail view.

  3. Select the Overview tab. Each metadata attribute row shows its current coverage % and the number of assets still missing that attribute.

  4. Find the attribute you want to enrich. Attributes that support AI enrichment show an Enrich Now button (sparkle icon).

  5. Click Enrich Now.

  6. Click Generate & apply to start the context agent. The enrichment row immediately shows Generating & applying... with a timestamp. You can stay on the page to monitor progress. The coverage % updates automatically when the job completes.

  7. To review past enrichment runs—when each job was triggered, how many assets were updated, and who ran it—select the Activity tab.
