Create AI app Private Preview

You can create AI apps in Atlan to operationalize your AI models. AI apps connect models, datasets, and outputs to enable deployment, monitoring, and governance across your AI ecosystem.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • AI Governance enabled in your workspace. Go to Admin → Labs, and turn on the AI Governance toggle. Learn more in Enable AI Governance.
  • Admin permissions in Atlan. Only admins can create AI apps and configure their settings. Alternatively, if a member has access to an AI policy persona with appropriate permissions, they can create and manage AI models and apps. Learn more about admin roles and AI policy.
  • Private Preview enabled for your tenant. Contact your Atlan customer team to enable Private Preview for AI Governance features.

Create AI app

You can create an AI app to connect models with input datasets and outputs, enabling end-to-end management and governance.

  1. In your Atlan workspace, open AI from the left sidebar.

  2. From the top right corner, click New and select AI app.

  3. In the Overview page, enter a descriptive Name for your app, and add a Description summarizing its purpose.

  4. Select one or more Owners responsible for managing and maintaining the app.

  5. Choose a Development stage for the app. You can select from Proposal, Development, Production, or Archived, depending on its lifecycle stage.

  6. Specify the Application version to track updates and iterations.

  7. In the Select assets section, define the assets your AI app uses.

    • In Input, select the AI model and datasets that the app consumes.

    • In Output, select the assets that store or display the app's results, such as tables or dashboards. Linking these assets helps maintain full lineage visibility across your AI ecosystem.

  8. In the Additional details section, add organization-specific information such as Custom metadata. This section appears only if custom metadata sets are configured for AI applications on models.

  9. Review the configuration and click Publish to create the AI app. If there is a New Entity Creation workflow active for AI assets, clicking Publish triggers the workflow. The AI app is only published once the workflow is approved.

Once published, your AI app appears under the AI section of your workspace. You can view connected models, input datasets, and outputs, and manage their lifecycle as part of your AI governance framework.
