What does Atlan crawl from Microsoft Fabric
Understand the metadata and assets that Atlan discovers from your Microsoft Fabric instance. The Microsoft Fabric connector is generally available, and Atlan is available in the Microsoft Marketplace and is Microsoft Azure co-sell eligible.
Atlan crawls and maps the following assets and properties from Microsoft Fabric.
Once you've crawled Microsoft Fabric, you can use connector-specific filters for quick asset discovery. The following filters are currently supported for all Fabric assets:
- Tags filters
Currently Atlan only represents the assets marked with 🔀 in lineage.
Some asset types are only cataloged when the Enable Scanner API Access toggle is disabled in the crawler. Assets marked with ⚙️ below require Scanner API Access to be disabled. See Capabilities & limitations for a full comparison.
The following sections detail how each asset type is mapped in Atlan.

Dataflows 🔀
Atlan maps Dataflow Gen1, Dataflow Gen2, and Dataflow Gen2 (CI/CD) from Microsoft Fabric to its FabricDataflow asset type.
When Scanner API Access is enabled, sourceUpdatedAt and sourceCreatedBy aren't available for Dataflow Gen1 and Dataflow Gen2. For Dataflow Gen2 (CI/CD), sourceCreatedBy is available only when a user created the dataflow.

Dataflow entity columns 🔀
Atlan maps dataflow entity columns from Microsoft Fabric to its FabricDataflowEntityColumn asset type.
For Dataflow Gen2 (CI/CD), Atlan takes columns from each query's destination table, so only queries that write to a crawled Fabric lakehouse or warehouse table get columns.
Atlan also needs the dataflow definition, which requires the Contributor role or higher on the workspace in both modes. Without it, the dataflow is cataloged with no entity columns. See Dataflow Gen2 (CI/CD) permissions.

Notebooks
Atlan maps notebooks from Microsoft Fabric to its FlowControlOperation asset type, with assetUserDefinedType set to Notebook.
Notebooks are cataloged only when Extract Spark runtime lineage is enabled in the crawler. Atlan catalogs every notebook in the crawled workspaces, including notebooks with no captured runtime lineage events. Atlan doesn't set a status on notebooks, because a Spark job's status doesn't show whether the whole notebook run succeeded. See Spark runtime lineage.

Spark jobs
Atlan maps the Spark jobs that notebooks run to its FlowControlOperation asset type, with assetUserDefinedType set to Spark Job. Each Spark job is linked to its notebook, and its properties describe the latest execution of the job.
Spark jobs are cataloged only when Extract Spark runtime lineage is enabled in the crawler, and only for notebooks with captured runtime lineage events. Start and finish times are set only when the corresponding events are captured.

When Scanner API Access is enabled, fabricFormatString and fabricDisplayFolder aren't available, because the Scanner API doesn't return them.
