# Install and set up browser extension

The Atlan browser extension brings metadata context directly into your data tools. You can see descriptions, owners, lineage, and more without leaving the tool you're already in. It works in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

- An Atlan account with access to your workspace.
- Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based browsers only).

## Install extension

You can install the extension from the Chrome Web Store or from your Atlan profile.

1. Go to the [Atlan extension](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/atlan/fipjfjlalpnbejlmmpfnmlkadjgaaheg) page on the Chrome Web Store.

2. Click **Add to Chrome**. For Microsoft Edge, follow the steps in [Add an extension to Microsoft Edge from the Chrome Web Store](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/add-turn-off-or-remove-extensions-in-microsoft-edge-9c0ec68c-2fbc-2f2c-9ff0-bdc76f46b026).

3. When prompted, click **Add extension** to confirm.

1. In your Atlan workspace, click your name in the upper right and select **Profile**.

2. Click the four-dots icon in the dialog to open Integrations.

3. Under _Apps_, for _Browser extension_, click **Install**. You are taken to the Chrome Web Store to complete the installation.

## Configure extension

After installing the extension, connect it to your Atlan workspace.

1. Click the Atlan icon in your browser toolbar to open the extension.

2. In the _Options_ page, enter your Atlan workspace URL, for example:

 ```
 mycompany.atlan.com
 ```

3. Click **Get started**. After a successful connection, the message _Updated successfully_ appears.

You're now ready to use the extension. See [Use Atlan browser extension](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/use-the-atlan-browser-extension/llms.txt).

### (Optional) Add custom domains for data tools

If any of your data tools are hosted on custom domains rather than their standard SaaS URLs, add them so the extension can recognize those pages.

1. In the _Options_ page, click **Configure custom domains** at the bottom.

2. In the dropdown on the left, select your data tool.

3. In the field on the right, enter the custom domain for that tool, for example:

 ```
 dbt Cloud: https://dbc-00.cloud.databricks.com
 ```

4. Repeat for each tool hosted on a custom domain, then click **Save**.

:::info
If your Atlan admin has already preconfigured custom domains for your organization, you won't be able to update or remove those entries. Click **+ Add** to configure custom domains for additional tools.
