Custom Metadata Extender
App

The Custom Metadata Extender app enables you to expand the scope of existing custom metadata definitions to include new connections or glossaries added after their creation. This app is particularly useful when you've created custom metadata in the past and later onboarded additional assets or domains where the metadata applies.

By using this app, you can bulk-update the availability of all attributes in a custom metadata structure, without needing to edit each attribute individually.

Access​

The Custom Metadata Extender app isn’t enabled by default. To use this app, contact Atlan support and request it be added to your tenant.

Configuration​

This section defines the properties used to configure the Custom Metadata Extender workflow.

Workflow name​

Specifies a unique name for identifying the workflow configuration within Atlan. This helps differentiate it from other metadata-related automations.

Example:

atlan-prod-custom-metadata-extender

Custom metadata​

Specifies the name of the custom metadata structure whose scope you want to extend.
All attributes in the specified structure are updated to include the selected connections, glossaries, and domains.

Connection​

Specifies one or more connections whose assets have the selected custom metadata available.

Select connections from the list. You can select multiple connections.

Glossaries​

Specifies one or more glossaries whose assets have the selected custom metadata applied.

Select glossaries from the list. You can select multiple glossaries.

Domains​

Determines which domains the custom metadata applies to.

Available options:

  • All domains: Applies the metadata structure to all existing domains in your tenant.
  • Specific domains: Applies the metadata structure only to specific domains you define. For example:
Customer Data, Marketing Analytics
  • No domains: Removes any domain-level association for the selected custom metadata.
