## Star assets

> Star your most-used assets to bookmark them for quick access. Starred assets appear in a personalized widget, can be sorted by star count, and can trigger notifications for metadata updates via Slack or Microsoft Teams.

Star your most-used assets to create a personalized bookmark list accessible from anywhere in Atlan. You can view starred assets in a dedicated widget, [filter your asset searches](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/use-the-filters-menu/llms.txt) by starred status, [sort by star count](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/search-and-discover-assets/llms.txt), and set up [Slack or Microsoft Teams notifications](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/link-your-slack-account/llms.txt) for metadata updates on starred assets.

 Anyone with access to Atlan - admin, member, or guest user - can star assets.

## Star asset

Navigate to all assets to begin:

On the Atlan homepage, click on **all assets**.
* If you are using the **Old UI (Classic)**, navigate to the left menu of any screen in Atlan and click **Assets**.

### From asset sidebar

To star an asset from the asset sidebar:

1. From the _Assets_ page, click an asset you want to star.
2. Navigate to the the upper right of the _Overview_ sidebar and click the star button to star the asset and add it to your list of starred assets.

### From asset profile

To star an asset from the asset profile:

1. From the _Assets_ page, right-click an asset you want to star and select **Open profile**.
2. Navigate to the top right of the asset profile and click the star button to star the asset and add it to your list of starred assets.

Click the star button again to remove the asset from your list of starred assets.

:::info **Did you know?** 
 Only _you_ have the power to edit stars from your starred assets. However, for assets you've starred, other users can view your username while hovering over the star button and from the activity log.

## View starred assets

Once you have starred your assets, you can use the _Starred assets_ widget to view them from anywhere in Atlan. The starred assets widget shows you a total count and complete list of your starred assets.

To view starred assets:

1. From your user profile dropdown, click the star icon. This also shows you a total count of your starred assets.

 If you are using the **Old UI (Classic)**, from the top right of any screen in Atlan, click the star icon.
2. From the _Starred assets_ popup, you can view starred assets sorted by most recently starred or use the search bar to search for specific starred assets. Click **Open in Assets** to view all your starred assets.
3. The corresponding _Assets_ page only shows all your starred assets with the _Starred assets_ filter applied. To further refine your search, add [more filters](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/use-the-filters-menu/llms.txt).
4. (Optional) Next to the search bar on the _Assets_ page, click the sort button. From the _Star count_ sorting menu, click **Most starred** to view most starred assets or **Fewest starred** to view least starred assets. 
5. Click any starred asset to view more details:
 - In the top right of the _Overview_ sidebar, hover over the star button to view total star count and users who have starred it in a popover.
 - From the sidebar tabs on the right, click the **Activity** tab to view [starred activity](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/faq/llms.txt) by user and timestamp.

## Enable metadata update alerts

You can set up Slack or Microsoft Teams notifications for metadata updates on all your starred assets in Atlan. You can also customize which types of change alerts you receive. With real-time alerts delivered directly to your [Slack](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/link-your-slack-account/llms.txt) account, you can stay informed about the latest updates to your starred assets.

Before you can set up notifications for starred assets, you need to:

- Slack:
 - [Integrate Slack and Atlan](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/integrate-slack/llms.txt)
 - [Link your Slack account to Atlan](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/link-your-slack-account/llms.txt)

To enable notifications for starred assets:

1. From your user profile dropdown, click the star icon.

 If you are using the **Old UI (Classic)**, from the top right of any screen in Atlan, click the star icon.

2. From the bottom left of the _Starred assets_ popup, click **Enable notifications**.
3. To link your Slack account:
 - If you have already [linked your Slack account](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/link-your-slack-account/llms.txt), skip this step. To [link your Slack account to Atlan](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/link-your-slack-account/llms.txt), in the _Receive notifications for starred assets_ dialog, click **Slack**, and from the corresponding screen, click **Allow** to continue.
4. In the notifications setup dialog, for _Notify me about_, you can either:
 1. Click **All updates** to receive notifications for all the changes listed in _Custom updates_ made to your starred assets.
 2. Click **Custom updates** to limit notifications to specific types of metadata updates: 
 - Click **Name** to receive an alert when the name of an asset is updated.
 - Click **Description** to receive an alert when a [description](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/add-descriptions/llms.txt) is added to, updated, or removed from an asset.
 - Click **Announcement** to receive an alert when an [announcement](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/create-announcements/llms.txt) is added to, updated, or removed from an asset.
 - Click **Certificate** to receive an alert when a [certificate](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/add-certificates/llms.txt) is added to, updated, or removed from an asset.
 - Click **Owners** to receive an alert when an [owner](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/discovery/add-owners/llms.txt) is assigned to or removed from an asset.
 - Click **Readme** to receive an alert when a [README](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/llms.txt) is added to, updated, or removed from an asset.
 - Click **Terms** to receive an alert when a [term is linked to or unlinked from an asset](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/glossary/link-terms-to-assets/llms.txt).
 - Click **Tags** to receive an alert when a tag is [attached to](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/tags/attach-a-tag/llms.txt) or [removed from](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/tags/remove-a-tag/llms.txt) an asset.
 - Click **Propagated Tags** to receive an alert when a tag is [propagated to](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/tags/attach-a-tag/llms.txt) or [removed from](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/tags/remove-a-tag/llms.txt) an asset.
 3.  Click **Save** to save your notification preferences.
5. (Optional) To edit notification settings, from the bottom left of the _Starred assets_ popup, click **Enabled**. In the notifications setup dialog, you can further customize your notifications.
6. (Optional) To remove notifications, from the bottom left of the _Starred assets_ popup, click **Enabled**. In the notifications setup dialog, click **Disable notifications** to reset your notification settings.

You now receive [Slack](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/governance/integrations/integrate-slack/llms.txt) notifications for changes made to all your starred assets in Atlan! 🎉
