The Cost reports help in understanding the cloud cost for using the Atlan product.
They can prove helpful in the following ways π
Identify cost for individual components like query, data quality, etc inside Atlan.
Calculate Atlan's cost specifically if you are running stack in a shared account.
Forecast and plan the budget for Atlan.
The current AWS user should have Billing IAM permission.
Follow the pointers given below to activate the "stack:name" tag.
Log in to AWS, search for billing, and select it.
Click on the "Cost allocation tags" option given on the left menu to navigate to that section.
Search for the tag "stack: name" under the "User-defined cost allocation tags" section and activate it. The tag is already active in the image shown below.
Post 24 hours from activation of the "stack:name" tag, log into AWS. Search for "cost explorer" and select it.
Click on the Reports option on the left menu to navigate to the section.
To create a new report, click on the orange button "Create new report" on the top right.
Select "Cost and Usage" as report type, and click on the "Create Report" orange button given at the bottom right.
Modify the duration as per requirement.
For example, click on the MTD option from the drop-down to select the Month to Date (MTD) format.
You can also select last week (7D) by clicking on 7D.
Similarly, you can choose to see just yesterday's data by clicking 1D.
You can also change the granularity i.e. the frequency of the graph. The option to do that is given just next to the time drop-down.
For daily data, select granularity as "Daily".
Group costs by Service.
Uncheck "Show forecasted values" under "ADVANCED OPTIONS".
You can also change the costs and choose from the drop-down "Show costs as".
Let's select "Blended costs" from the drop-down as an example.
Click on the filter: Tag
Type "stack:name" in the search under Tag and select it.
Under the "stack:name" tag, search the name of Atlan's CloudFormation stack (here we use "infrapoc"), select it, and click on the "Apply filters" button in blue.
Save the report by clicking the "Save as..." button on the top left.
Enter the report's name and click on the "Save Report".
π Your report is now ready.
After saving the report, go to the "Reports Section" from the left menu.
Search for the newly created report using the report name.
Click on the report to view the report and download the report by clicking on Download CSV.
The report will be downloaded as a file named 'costs.csv'.
The downloaded CSV will have 'Services' as columns and 'Dates' as rows.
You can now easily share this file with requisite people on your team π€
