Atlan supports downstream integration with Tableau, making it easier for you to analyze and visualize your Atlan data assets using Tableau.
Before you get started, you'll need to have the supported version of Tableau Desktop installed on your local machine. (The supported version of Tableau Desktop is mentioned below, although we recommend updating your Tableau Desktop to the latest version.) You can download the latest version from the Tableau website.
Tableau 2020.2 +
Click on the search bar (or press ⌘/Ctrl + K ) and type the name of the table data asset you want to analyze in Tableau.
You will be greeted with the Overview screen of your data asset. This contains the data profile, snapshot, metadata and README, along with other information related to your data asset.
From the toolbar on the top, click on "Query" to access the Query section of the data asset.
You need to query the data you want to ingest within Tableau. You can build a query using the "Build Query" option, in case you are not familiar with the SQL query language.
After you run the query, follow these steps:
Click on "Open in App".
Select "Open in Tableau".
Copy the URL from the dialogue box.
To establish a web data connection between your Atlan workspace and Tableau Desktop, follow these steps:
Open the Tableau desktop on your machine.
Select "Web Data Connector" from the server connection list.
Paste the URL you copied earlier in the address bar, and press Enter.
You will be to prompted to enter user credentials for your Atlan workspace.
Verify the query and select the maximum rows you want to ingest.
Click on "Get Data".
