## What does Atlan crawl from IBM Db2 for LUW?

> Metadata Atlan extracts from IBM Db2 for LUW - databases, schemas, tables, views, columns, stored procedures, and functions - mapped to Atlan assets.

Atlan extracts metadata for databases, schemas, tables, views, columns, stored procedures, and functions from the IBM Db2 for LUW system catalog and maps each property to its internal asset model. The tables below list which source properties Atlan reads and how they appear on the corresponding Atlan asset.

Atlan automatically excludes the system schemas `SYSCAT`, `SYSIBM`, `SYSSTAT`, `SYSPUBLIC`, `SYSTOOLS`, `SYSFUN`, `SYSIBMADM`, `NULLID`, `SYSIBMINTERNAL`, and `SYSIBMTS`.

## Asset types

| Source object | Atlan asset type |
| --- | --- |
| Connected database | `Database` |
| Schema | `Schema` |
| Base table | `Table` |
| View | `View` |
| Column of a table or view | `Column` |
| Stored procedure | `Procedure` |
| User-defined function | `Function` |

Atlan doesn't catalog nicknames, materialized query tables, typed tables, aliases, indexes, triggers, sequences, or routines that belong to a module.

## Databases

A Db2 for LUW connection reaches exactly one database, so Atlan maps the connected database to its `Database` asset type. Each database and port pair you add under **Databases** produces its own `Database` asset.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Connected database name | `name` | Name of the connected database |
| Number of schemas | `schemaCount` | Count derived during the crawl |

## Schemas

Atlan maps schemas to its `Schema` asset type. Every schema sits under its owning database.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `SCHEMANAME` | `name` | Schema name |
| `OWNER` | `sourceCreatedBy` | Authorization ID that owns the schema |
| `CREATE_TIME` | `sourceCreatedAt` | Creation timestamp |
| `REMARKS` | `description` | Schema comment |
| Number of tables | `tableCount` | Count derived during the crawl |
| Number of views | `viewsCount` | Count derived during the crawl |

## Tables

Atlan maps base tables to its `Table` asset type.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `TABNAME` | `name` | Table name |
| `TABSCHEMA` | `schemaName` | Owning schema |
| `REMARKS` | `description` | Table comment |
| `OWNER` | `sourceCreatedBy` | Authorization ID that owns the table |
| `CREATE_TIME` | `sourceCreatedAt` | Creation timestamp |
| `ALTER_TIME` | `sourceUpdatedAt` | Last alteration timestamp |
| Number of columns | `columnCount` | Recounted from the columns Atlan crawled |

## Views

Atlan maps views to its `View` asset type. Db2 stores long view text as numbered fragments, so Atlan reassembles the statement in sequence order and uses it to generate lineage to the view's source tables.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `TABNAME` | `name` | View name |
| `TABSCHEMA` | `schemaName` | Owning schema |
| View statement text | `definition` | View SQL, reassembled from its fragments |
| `REMARKS` | `description` | View comment |
| `OWNER` | `sourceCreatedBy` | Authorization ID that owns the view |
| `CREATE_TIME` | `sourceCreatedAt` | Creation timestamp |
| `ALTER_TIME` | `sourceUpdatedAt` | Last alteration timestamp |
| Number of columns | `columnCount` | Recounted from the columns Atlan crawled |

## Columns

Atlan maps columns of tables and views to its `Column` asset type.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `COLNAME` | `name` | Column name |
| `COLNO` | `order` | Ordinal position |
| `TYPENAME` | `dataType` | Db2 data type |
| `LENGTH` | `maxLength` | Declared length |
| `SCALE` | `numericScale` | Numeric scale, when non-zero |
| `NULLS` | `isNullable` | Whether the column accepts nulls |
| `KEYSEQ` | `isPrimary` | True when the column belongs to the primary key |
| `REMARKS` | `description` | Column comment |

Foreign key constraints aren't in scope for Db2 for LUW, so `isForeign` is always false.

## Stored procedures

Atlan maps stored procedures to its `Procedure` asset type. Routines that belong to a module are excluded. The procedure body is used to generate lineage.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `ROUTINENAME` | `name` | Procedure name |
| `ROUTINESCHEMA` | `schemaName` | Owning schema |
| `TEXT` | `definition` | Procedure body |
| `LANGUAGE` | `sqlLanguage` | Implementation language |
| `REMARKS` | `description` | Procedure comment |
| `OWNER` | `sourceCreatedBy` | Authorization ID that owns the procedure |
| `CREATE_TIME` | `sourceCreatedAt` | Creation timestamp |
| `ALTER_TIME` | `sourceUpdatedAt` | Last alteration timestamp |

## Functions

Atlan maps user-defined functions to its `Function` asset type. Built-in and system-generated functions, and functions that belong to a module, are excluded. The function body is used to generate lineage.

| Source property | Atlan property | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `ROUTINENAME` | `name` | Function name |
| `ROUTINESCHEMA` | `schemaName` | Owning schema |
| `TEXT` | `functionDefinition` | Function body |
| `LANGUAGE` | `functionLanguage` | Implementation language |
| `REMARKS` | `description` | Function comment |
| `OWNER` | `sourceCreatedBy` | Authorization ID that owns the function |
| `CREATE_TIME` | `sourceCreatedAt` | Creation timestamp |
| `ALTER_TIME` | `sourceUpdatedAt` | Last alteration timestamp |

## Lineage

Atlan generates lineage by parsing the SQL definitions of views, stored procedures, and functions. Query history mining and usage metrics aren't supported for Db2 for LUW.
