## Preflight checks for Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics

Before [running the Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics crawler](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/connectors/microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/crawl-microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/llms.txt), you can run [preflight checks](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/catalog/connector-capabilities/what-are-preflight-checks/llms.txt) to perform the necessary technical validations. The following preflight checks will be completed:

## Databases and schemas check

This check is performed for both [basic](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/connectors/microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/set-up-microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/llms.txt) and [service principal](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/connectors/microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/set-up-microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/llms.txt) authentication method.

❌ `Check failed for $missingObjectName`

## REST credentials check

This check is only performed when using the [service principal authentication](https://docs.atlan.com/llms/connectors/microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/set-up-microsoft-azure-synapse-analytics/llms.txt) method. Atlan authenticates the service principal credentials by attempting to fetch the access token using [Microsoft's authorization flow](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/azure/#acquire-an-access-token).
